Healthy Lifestyles

Healthy Lifestyles
Boys & Girls Clubs Healthy Lifestyles programs encourage and support Club members to adopt a healthy diet, practice healthy lifestyle choices and make a lifelong commitment to fitness for the mind, body and soul.  Below are only some of our healthy lifestyles focused programs.

Hoop House & Medicine Wheel Garden:  The Club offers two educational green spaces on site, a 30 x 70 ft. hoop house and a smaller garden in the shape of a Native American medicine wheel. The hoop house and medicine wheel garden provide opportunities for urban inner city youth to connect with the land and discover the potential they have to feed themselves. The gardens allow for a unique, fun and educational experience where Club members can learn basic agricultural skills in addition to exposure to other cultures.

Intramural Sports Leagues:  Leagues designed to not only teach youth the skills and fundamentals of the sports they love but also good sportsmanship.
Peace Class:  Teaching Club members various meanings of peace through discussions and activities such as yoga breathing and stretching, in addition to folding origami peace cranes.

Sports Club:  This is a Club within the Club for the avid sports lover. Discussing different opportunities to play sports at the collegiate level and even beyond, and the determination it takes to get there.

SMART Girls:  A healthy attitudes and lifestyles program for girls ages 7 to 12. Through hands-on activities, girls gain a greater understanding about themselves and the community around them.
